Light Drawing - Zeus

Our light drawing is supposed to resemble Zeus, the greek God of...something.  We basically just kept trying stuff till we liked one.  This was our best natural shot with out using stencils.  It is the best of the bunch I think.  The one difficulty is keeping the light from streaking off the shot, as the green light did here.  This project is always fun because it is uniquely creative and interactive.

Talking Tiger - Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker

This is my talking tiger, he sings the chorus of Darius Rucker's version of the song Wagon Wheel.  It was difficult to teach him how to sing this song but with practice it makes perfect...and well, he sings it perfectly now. I am very proud of him for his hard work!

Painting Project

This place is very dry and windy.  The grass flows in the wind, and the sun skoals the soft tar.  The heat rises up the cliff side.  The smell of nature travels through the valley in the wind. I used natural colors in this painting to show the reality of the scene.  Very warm and dry.  When painting the sky I used a sideways brushstroke to get the right effect.  For the mountain range I used up and down brush strokes with a loaded brush to get the streak effect in the rock layers.  I slapped a fan brush on the canvas to create the grass. Lastly, the brush strokes for the road went inwards towards the center of the canvas.  and the lines were done the same way, just with extra detail.

Sparkle Project

This project was unique and challenging.  The struggles I had were with the colors.  It is difficult to keep everything within the same color scheme.  I also feel that it became too busy real quick.  However, it was cool to work with loading custom brushes and gradients.  Downloading brushes in way allows your creativity to be expanded even further.  The picture I used is of a buddy of mine longboarding.  I took the picture maybe a year or two ago.  Overall this project was interesting and a good learning experience.

Forced Perspective Photography

This project was simple and fun.  Very succsesful as you can see.  I am a decent photographer, so this didn't take long to achieve.  We just had to wait for the right cloud.

Zentangling

Zentangling in the courtyard was really fun, I love abstract art.  I like how we were able to do it in the courtyard where everyone can see.  The only difficult part about this was getting the brown mud to stand out on the brick.

Clay Project

This project was sort of succesful,  but I didn't get to complete my monster.  He has no face...which stinks.  I havn't seen the finished project yet.  But I liked this project because it was a learning experience, I have never worked with clay before.  This project was very entertaining and unique.

Two Most Successful Pieces

I must give my stencil project the award for my best piece so far this semester, it is beyond what I expected it to turn out like. The colors flow really well together, my cuts were neat, precise, and detailed which gives it texture.  Yeah I took longer than everybody else to finish, but I guess I saved the best for last.  The colors give it a very natural look.  If I had used pink, or purple...or any color like that, I do not believe it would hold the same effect.  I love this piece a lot!

My second best piece was my value scale drawing.  Bono is one of my favorite musicians, it was an experience to draw him.  I am not afraid of the dark, which is why this piece came out so great!  In order to get a portrait like this to turn out, you must include contrast and that is exactly what I did.  I hate bragging on my work, but this is a really great piece.  The shading flows very well.  I spent a lot of time on this piece and I know it was worth every second.

Printing Project

This project was very successful I believe.  I learned a new skill, printing.  The process was sort of frustrating and tedious but the end product was very worth while.  I think everything worked about this project. It is not exactly what I had invisioned but it turned out great.  The most dificult part about this project was getting my print carved out. It was difficult to picture what levels should have been cut out and what shouldn't have.  In the end it came out well, so I am proud of my work.

Magazine Cover

I enjoyed this project, it allowed me to reach into the graphic design world in a communications sense.  The most difficult part was thinking of a name to put as my magazine title.  The rest was easy as pie!  I am very creative when it comes to things like this.  I got lucky to find a funny face picture of Leonardo DeCaprio, which topped everything off!  The fonts go really well together, which gives the cover uniformity.  It ties everything together in the end.

Self Portrait - Stencil

The stencil project was really fun, I have not completed my piece yet but I think it'll turn out pretty well.  The hardest part is thinking about how the colors will line up.  I ran into that problem already but I'll get it to work.  This project was a battle, I literally cut myself maybe 3 times while cutting out the stencils.  I cut myself pretty bad the first time and had to stop for the day so I didn't bleed all over my paper.  I hope this turns out in the end.

Self Portrait - Pencil

During this project I learned the scales and tricks for drawing self portraits.  They are very useful because it allows the features of the face to be proportional.  I like how the nose turned out and the shading under the eyes.  The eyes were kind of difficult and I messed up the value on one, so one eye is darker than the other.  I still have to finish my hair, and ears and make touch ups but overall I think it'll turn out pretty well.

Bush and Butthead

This project was difficult because it was hard to come up with good idea.  I finally came up with George Bush and Butthead from the MTV cartoon.  The actual editing of the photo wasnt difficult in any way.

iPad - Horned Bird

iPad - Apple

The first day of using iPads, Mr. Sands told us to paint/draw an apple.  The apple I drew wasn't that great.  The colors are nice but the overall shape is a little off.  However, I incorporated a table and a shadow to give a little life to the piece.  I think we could possibly use 123D Sculpt if we did some clay animation project.  We could use it to design our objects before we use the clay.

Aisha

This was a very annoying assignment.  I think it could have definitely come out better, but I just gave up because the amount of patience I had for this was low to begin with.  Most everything looks perfect until you get to the face.  I couldn't quite get the lights and darks to blend the way they should.  So the most difficult part was most definitely the face.

Stencil Photo

Junk Shadow

I feel that this piece was very successful because many of the materials that we were allowed to use are very difficult to work with.  The fact that our result was quite unique and realistic was an accomplishment.  From the start eveything seemed to not work at all, and we had no idea what we were trying to make.  We just kept throwing stuff on top. Our base wasn't very sturdy, so I grabbed a flatter box to use as our base.  and that seemed to help a lot.  If I were to do this project again I would just open up my eyes more and make use of the things that were in plain sight.  The hardest part was to think of something to create out of tons of junk.  I learned that I need to visualize something before putting it together.

Value Scale Drawing

I feel that this piece was very successful.  I believe it is my best piece yet in AOIT Art One.  If I were to do this again I would spend more time on picking out the shapes.  That seemed to cause some issues later in the process.  I must say the most difficult part of this piece was working on the nose and mouth.  I still haven't fixed it to the best of my abilities, but yes it was the hardest area to work with.  I learned that I shouldn't be afraid of the dark.  That worked out for me quite well because I am not!

Bono - Reduced to Four Shades of Gray

Walk Cycle Animation

This piece is not one of my most succesful pieces.  This was just overall a pain in the butt...since the paper was so light when people would walk by my working area the paper would move.  That was the difficult part, just keeping the paper still till I snapped a picture.  If I did this project over again I would use construction paper instead of printer paper.  I learned that stop motion animation is a pain staking process and it requires a lot of patience.

Fish Animation

I feel that this piece is pretty succesful.  We had the task of taking a grammar school students cartoon artwork and animating it using Photoshop.  To complete this project I had to cut out the fish and and then clone the waves to make a flowing background where the fish used to be.  Nothing really didn't work for me that I ended up trying.  If I were to do this project again I would make my animation more elaborate. The most difficult part of this project was the blending of the background.  It was a challenge to get things to flow like they do.  I learned that the feather eraser option is very helpful in many ways.

Mesh Project

My object was fairly unique I believe.  I made a list of both animate and inanimate objects.  I went through both of my lists and chose two thing that I thought I could possibly mesh together.  I came up with a snake and a garden hose.  I feel that my cuts are very clean and precise.  I tried my best to math the colors so it will still look like a snake and a hose.  It was difficult because the lighting was different on each image.  My image doesn't contain much juxtaposition or high contrast.  It was a fairly simple idea, I just couldn't come up with the result I truly wanted.

Bono Colorize

Elephant Tang

This particular project was fun and challenging at the same time.  I was able to use my creativity to come up with two animals that I could put together to create a newimal.  I chose to put a yellow tang and an elephant together.  The shapes worked well together so it was a great idea.  My only issue was the texture and color matching.  I still wish the color blended much better than it does.  I also wish the texture of the elephants head was more like the fish's body.  Overall the project was interesting, it defintely gave me some practice with tools I don't normally use.

Rhino in the Street

Chick the Skeleton

We have drawn Chick the Skeleton twice already this semester in Art I.  The image above shows both of my attempts at drawing her.  I enjoy the challenge that this brings forth, it allows me to go into deeper thought about the details that matter while drawing something like this.  I feel that my first attempt (right) is too sketchy and not very proportional.  However, my second attempt (left) is very good I believe and my confidence was much greater than that of my first attempt.  I would definitely say that I spend to much time on the smallest details when I am drawing, so hopefully I can correct that over time.  20 minutes is the time that is allotted to draw chick, which makes it difficult and pressuring.
